Chris:

Wow thanks for the kind words! We found your site in our refer logs so we're even - I can't believe that we haven't run across your site before.

We do know that we're something of a weblog. We've got an RSS feed at http://www.eeecooks.com/main.rss. We've even thought of integrating the site with MoveableType, but we have a hard enough time keeping up with the email feedback that we get, let alone keeping up with a running dialog in a weblog. Maybe someday...

Thanks again for the kind words and the link!

Dick:

I was going to say how easy MovableType made updating a site, and then noticed my munged link in the post [been fixed now]. Doh! Doesn't matter how good the tool is if the operator doesn't pay attention, does it?

You have a great site, particularly with the quality of the photos. So, do you do the whole thing by hand? And, I love the geo metatags! Haven't gotten around to putting them in here yet.

Chris:

Man, you're a dork aren't you? Geotags. Of course, I'm the one that actually put them in there... There's a link on http://www.syndic8.com/ that builds the geo metatags for you.

We store the recipes in a custom XML format. We use XSLT to transform the XML into the recipes, the meal pages, the recipe lists, the homepage, even the text for the mailing list. We've got it all pretty much automated at this point.

We do it all on linux (using the Gimp for the photos), so it's all free software. Our only investment has been the digital camera (worth it for the kids alone!) and our time. Our time is considerable, but we're happy with the results.

Thanks again. Oh, and I almost forgot to compliment you on your site, which we've both been enjoying since we found it!
